The Saddle Sisters 2025 Healing with Horses Challenge started as an idea years ago, to in October start a ride that honors our Saddle Sisters (and brothers) that have had breast cancer or other cancers affect their lives or the lives of their loved ones.   The heart of this was that we all know how healing horses can be to our soul and that we could band together and make a difference for an organization that pairs those facing cancer so that they can have hands on horse healing.   After I found Healing with Horses and talked with the founder, Kelly,  I knew that this org was the one I had been waiting to partner with.  

 

ONE  participant will have their bib number drawn with a random number generator to receive a black with pink decorations breast cancer awareness TREK-ETT pommel bag!   WARHORSE Endurance commissioned this special pommel bag in honor of our saddle sisters and brothers who have faced any kind of cancer, though since October is breast cancer awareness month, we did go with the pink, hope, fight theme.  Photos of the pommel bag will be shown on our WARHORSE CHALLENGES Facebook group. 

This is the year that it became more than just an idea, it became an event that is more than just another ride—it’s a tribute of working with or moving  25 miles or hours and partnering with a charity that will make sure other men and women get time experience that wonderful feeling that is healing with horses.  We all feel that healing, just standing in their prescence.  Getting to laugh at their antics and charmed by their personalities.  Horses are a gift and they are one that I love to share with others.  

 

Many of us in the WARHORSE Challenges community have felt the impact of cancer, whether personally or through a sister, friend, or loved one. This memorial challenge invites us to ride in honor of those touched by breast cancer and all cancers, while also giving back to Healing with Horses Louisiana, a unique program that brings the healing presence of horses.

Participants may complete this challenge in miles or hours, at their own pace, and with no time limit and also with or without a horse. Ride, drive, walk alongside your horse, or go horseless and be creative in the way you dedicate your time / miles in a way that is meaningful to you. Every mile, every hour, becomes a way of honoring the strength, courage, and memory of our saddle sisters (and brothers).

Why This Event Matters
Healing with Horses Louisiana is one of the only equine therapy programs in Louisiana serving multiple groups of individuals with touch-based equine therapy—and one of only a few in the nation that can bring therapy horses into facilities for sensory and healing work. Their mission is to support the emotional, physical, and mental well-being of clients while upholding the highest ethical standards.

By joining this challenge, you’ll help extend the healing power of horses to women and men who may not otherwise have access, while celebrating the blessings of the horses in our own lives.
