Race day (AI-assisted text)

As a first-time fundraising 5K organized by a student chapter, expect a friendly and perhaps slightly informal race day experience. Packet pickup will likely be straightforward and welcoming. The crowd will be a mix of students, community members, and supporters, creating a relaxed pace at the start. Weather snapshot (AI-assisted text)

Taking place in Charlottesville, VA in April, you can generally expect pleasant spring weather. Temperatures are often mild and comfortable for running. However, spring can bring variability, so be prepared for anything from cool breezes to warmer, sunnier conditions, and perhaps a chance of rain.

Terrain & course feel (AI-assisted text)

Given it's a 5K run/walk in a university town, the course is most likely on paved roads or pathways within the UVA campus or surrounding Charlottesville area. Expect a relatively flat to gently rolling terrain, typical for urban or campus 5K events, making it accessible for all participants.

NORD at UVA is a student chapter of the National Organization for Rare Disorders, and this is our first fundraising 5k!  Founded two years ago, our chapter is focused on education and advocacy within the rare disease space.  All proceeds from this event will go toward NORD's support of rare disease patients!

NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders), a 501(c)(3) organization, is a patient advocacy organization dedicated to individuals with rare diseases and the organizations that serve them. NORD, along with its more than 300 patient organization members, is committed to the identification, treatment, and cure of rare disorders through programs of education, advocacy, research, and patient services. Over 25 million Americans have been diagnosed with rare diseases, and less than 10% of these diseases have a treatment approved by the FDA. Our goal is to raise money to help fund research for rare diseases. Website: https://rarediseases.org/
