From the organizer
Campus Student Council is proud to announce Penny Schuckman as our 2026 beneficiary for the Gary Engels Memorial (GEM) 5K. The GEM 5K honors the legacy of Gary Engels, a beloved English teacher at Campus High School whose impact continues to be felt throughout Campus and the Haysville community. Each year, a new beneficiary is selected in his memory.
Penny Schuckman, director of the Dr. John Burke Learning Center is the beneficiary of the Gary Engels Memorial 5K. Penny was chosen since in December, she experienced a medical emergency when a brain aneurysm ruptured. Penny has a strong medical team that have coiled the aneurysm, in this process they discovered another aneurysm that will be treated soon. What makes Penny remarkable is not only her resilience, but her gratitude to her medical team, family, friends, and everyone at USD261.
To know Penny is to love her. She is one of the rare ones who makes every space brighter and every person seen. Her positivity is contagious, her kindness constant, and her energy unmatched. Penny says that USD261 has given her far more than she has given it. Those who’ve worked alongside Penny know her impact tells a different story. This year, we are honored to rally around Penny as our GEM 5K beneficiary.
Join us on April 25, 2026 to support Penny Schuckman! Check-in begins at 9:00am and the race starts at 9:30am. Registration includes a t-shirt (guaranteed to those who sign up before April 10, 2026).
