Description:

The 2nd Annual Crusaders Crush Cancer 5K

We are back for the 2nd annual Crusaders Crush Cancer 5k!  We are ready to make this year bigger and better than last year!  We have signs ready to go for an accurately marked course.  This year's race is hosted by several of our senior students: Brendan Fogarty, Cathair Cashin, Ronan Moore, and Kevin Roughneen.  Their goal is to make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer.  Brendan started this event last year to honor his father, Sean Fogarty's, current battle with cancer and to try to help others fighting their own battles with cancer.  Proceeds from this event will again be split between two organizations that are especially close to our hearts: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Crusader Care Fund.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is one of the world’s leading institutions dedicated solely to cancer care, research, and education. Recognized as one of the top two cancer hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for more than 30 years, MSK continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in cancer treatment. Their world-class scientists and clinicians work together to translate groundbreaking research into life-saving therapies. MSK’s mission is bold and clear: ending cancer for life.

The Crusader Care Fund provides vital support to Archbishop Stepinac High School families facing serious illness. This fund helps ease the financial burdens these families may encounter during incredibly challenging times, offering relief and solidarity when it is needed most.

This year we will be offering wristbands and hats for sale to benefit the Happiness is Camping organization.  Happiness Is Camping is a nonprofit overnight camp designed specifically for kids ages 6-17 who have or had cancer and their siblings.  However, that description doesn’t do the camp justice because, for Cathair Cashin, one of the hosts of the event and a pediatric cancer survivor now approaching remission of 4 years, and many others, it's the most magical place on earth.  During his battle, Cathair temporarily lost the ability to walk, and for him, that was the hardest part of cancer because it's hard to find motivation to do anything.  However, that all changed when he arrived at Happiness is Camping.  In Cathair's own words, "From the second you arrive, the first thing you hear is laughter and joy.  You see people of all stages in their journey playing with each other, rooting for each other, and most importantly genuinely caring for each other.  It gives you hope.  You hear stories from people who were a million times worse off than you, and their joy and appreciation for everything in life gives you your own faith back.  Happiness Is Camping is the largest reason I don’t look back on cancer negatively but as possibly the one of the happiest and eye-opening times in my life."  Hats and wristbands can be purchased on this site when you register and we will have limited quantities available for purchase at the event.  Please consider contributing to this worthy organization!

By participating in the Crusaders Crush Cancer 5K, you’re not just running—you’re standing with families in our community and contributing to the larger fight to end cancer.
